Three more ready-made front panels are on the Benches page. All three instruments are older than SCPI, which is most of why they earn their place as examples: each one answers in a dialect of its own.
- Philips PM5191 function generator. Sine, triangle, square or either
sawtooth, 0.1 mHz to 2.147 MHz, amplitude in Vpp, Vrms or dBm, and AM from
an internal or external source. Two-letter codes, carriage return in both directions.
Every read-back on the panel comes out of the single
IS?status string, with each card picking its own field from it. - HP 5335A universal counter. All 16 measurement functions in one picker, from
frequency and period through rise time, duty cycle and phase, plus gate control,
external arming and the counter's own mean and standard deviation. No
*IDN?and no error queue, so a bad command appears as Error 1.0 on the instrument's display and nowhere else. - Marconi 2019A signal generator. Carrier up to 1040 MHz with AM, FM and
phase modulation. The commands carry their own units, so
CF 100 MZis 100 MHz, and reading a value back means sending a query and then doing a plain read.
The PM5191 bench is not mine. A user built it, used it, and then sent it in so everybody else could have it too. Thank you for that, it is exactly how this page is meant to grow. If you have put a front panel together for an instrument that is not listed yet, send it over and it can go up beside these.
There was supposed to be a fourth. A Gould oscilloscope was sitting on the desk waiting its turn, and before its turn came the magic pink smoke got out. A bench needs an instrument that still answers, so the Gould will have to wait for a repair.
Importing works the same as always: download the file, open the adapter's web interface and load it. The Benches tutorial walks through that, and through building your own from scratch.
